Grade: Considerable Exposure to Destructive Companies

RSA Insurance, soon to be rebranded as Intact Insurance, is a major UK insurer with a legacy spanning over three centuries, rooted in the Sun Fire Office of 1710. However, its history is marred by colonialism: RSA has publicly acknowledged and apologised for its historical connections to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, with research revealing that some former chairpersons and directors of firms later absorbed by RSA profited from slavery or received compensation after abolition.

Customer dissatisfaction is rampant: RSA’s Trustpilot rating languishes at just 1.2 out of 5, with widespread complaints about poor service, delayed claims, and disputes over payouts. The company’s planned rebranding to Intact Insurance is widely seen as a superficial attempt to escape its troubled past and present.

Angus Energy is a UK oil and gas company aggressively pursuing onshore extraction, while trampling over local communities and environmental protections. Its core assets—Saltfleetby (the UK’s largest onshore gas field), Brockham, Lidsey, and Balcombe—have each become battlegrounds between profit-driven industry and concerned residents.

At Brockham, Angus drilled without planning permission in 2017, exposed by a persistent protest camp. Despite clear breaches, Surrey County Council sided with the company, granting retrospective approval. Angus even tried to muzzle critical BBC reporting by complaining to Ofcom, but was rebuffed.

Balcombe is also under fire, with locals challenging Angus’s plans for an exploratory well, fearing irreversible environmental damage. The case, heard in early 2025, remains unresolved, leaving residents in uncertainty.

Marubeni Corporation stands as one of Japan’s most formidable integrated trading and investment conglomerates, wielding immense influence across global markets. With a history stretching back to 1858, Marubeni has evolved into a sprawling empire, operating in over 60 countries and employing more than 50,000 people worldwide. The company’s reach is staggering: it manages a vast portfolio spanning agriculture, energy, metals, infrastructure, real estate, finance, aerospace, and technology ventures.

Marubeni’s energy portfolio is vast, including stakes in major LNG projects in Equatorial Guinea, Peru, and Papua New Guinea, alongside oil and gas exploration and production in locations such as the US and India.

Despite claims of transitioning towards a low-carbon society and expanding renewable energy, Marubeni’s continues deep involvement in coal-fired power plants. Past projects, such as the Thabametsi coal power station in South Africa, have been scrutinised for their substantial climate impact and alleged disregard for environmental standards.

  • Controversial Weapons

Boeing is not only a global aerospace giant but also a pivotal enabler of the Israeli genocide of Palestinians. The company has supplied Israel with vast quantities of advanced weaponry, notably its Joint Direct Attack Munition kits, which convert unguided bombs into precision-guided munitions. These Boeing-manufactured weapons have been linked to numerous deadly attacks on densely populated civilian areas, in what Amnesty International and other human rights organisations have condemned as potential war crimes. Boeing’s Apache attack helicopters and F-15 fighter jets have also played a central role in Israeli military campaigns, further amplifying the scale and lethality of operations in Gaza.

Beyond its role in conventional warfare, Boeing is a key contractor in the U.S. nuclear weapons program, maintaining and supporting the guidance systems for Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are central to the U.S. nuclear arsenal. This dual role—supplying both conventional and nuclear arsenals—places Boeing at the heart of global military-industrial power, with its products implicated in both genocide and the ongoing threat of nuclear escalation.

CASE STUDY: Joint Direct Attack Munitions used on Palestinians

On 10 and 22 October 2023, two Israeli air strikes—using Boeing-manufactured Joint Direct Attack Munitions —killed 43 civilians, including 19 children, in Deir al-Balah, Gaza. Amnesty International’s forensic analysis confirmed Boeing’s JDAM fragments and manufacturing codes in the rubble of destroyed homes, where survivors reported no prior warning. The attacks, lacking any apparent military objective, obliterated families and left survivors in shock.

US-made weapons facilitated the mass killings of extended families,

  • Migrant Abuse

Corporate Travel Management (CTM), an Australian travel firm, has aggressively entrenched itself in the UK’s asylum detention industry, profiting from the abuse of refugees while operating under a veil of secrecy and impunity.

Once a corporate travel provider, CTM exploited emergency contracts and political connections to secure lucrative, non-competitive government deals—most notoriously the £1.6 billion contract for the Bibby Stockholm barge, a floating prison falsely branded as humanitarian accommodation. The barge became notorious for its squalid and unsafe conditions: overcrowded, infested with legionella, and riddled with fire hazards. Despite repeated warnings, CTM delayed evacuations, leaving desperate asylum seekers trapped in peril. The tragic suicide of Leonard Farruku, a resident, exposed the psychological torment inflicted by these brutal conditions.

Yet, even after the government closed the barge, CTM’s influence remained unchecked: in 2025, it landed another £150 million contract for asylum-related travel and hotel management.

Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest arms manufacturer, stands as a linchpin of global military-industrial power, supplying Israel with some of its most advanced and lethal weapons. The company’s AGM-114 Hellfire missiles have been deployed in Gaza, including a November 2023 strike near Shifa Hospital that killed journalists and other civilians.

Beyond its role in conventional warfare, Lockheed Martin is central to the global nuclear arms race. The company is responsible for the design, production, and modernisation of nuclear delivery systems, notably the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, as well as subcontracting for the Sentinel modernisation programme and maintaining Trident II missiles for both the US and UK. Through these contracts, Lockheed Martin ensures the continued operation and lethality of nuclear arsenals that threaten global security.

Cenovus Energy, headquartered in Calgary, is one of Canada’s largest integrated oil and gas producers, ranking as the country’s third-largest crude oil and natural gas producer and second-largest refiner and upgrader. The company’s operations span vast oil sands projects, conventional crude, and offshore assets, with a footprint that extends from Alberta to the Asia Pacific region. Cenovus has recently ramped up oil sands production, pumping out 613,000 barrels per day in early 2024 and securing a major stake in the newly completed Trans Mountain Expansion pipeline to boost crude exports to the Pacific.

Cenovus has been revealed as a key funder of groups that actively undermine climate action and question established climate science.

Internal records show Cenovus has donated significant sums to organisations such as the Fraser Institute and the Macdonald Laurier Institute, both of which have published material ridiculing the climate emergency and casting doubt on the urgency of emissions reductions. The Fraser Institute, for example, has promoted the false claim that there has been “no statistically significant temperature change for the past 15 to 20 years.”

Beyond funding, Cenovus has lobbied aggressively against federal climate policies, notably opposing the proposed cap on oil and gas sector emissions. The company’s CEO has publicly stated that such a cap is unnecessary, arguing that existing regulations are sufficient—a stance echoed by the think tanks and advocacy groups Cenovus support.
