Serco Profiting from Abuse
Profiteering from abuse and exploitation of migrants
This briefing exposes the complicity of global insurance companies in Serco’s abuse and exploitation of migrants, as well as its connections to the genocide in Gaza.
Serco has perfected the art of profiting from state violence, enabling the surveillance and detention of racialised communities. This briefing outlines how Serco operates as a corporate predator, capitalising on:
- Prisons and detention centres – including immigration detention and asylum accommodation.
- Surveillance and control – such as electronic tagging and monitoring.
- War and militarisation – from maintaining UK military infrastructure to partnering with Israeli weapons manufacturers and supporting the production of the lethal F-35 fighter jet, used in the bombing of Gaza.
This briefing investigates the insurance companies underwriting and investing in these practices.
It finds that Aviva and QBE continue to provide crucial coverage for Serco through providing Employers’ Liability insurance. As well as this, it reveals millions of pounds of financial backing through investments by AXA, Allianz, and Aviva. As Serco is profiting from oppression and exploitation, these insurance companies are profiting with it.
